Gandhi is not just about Gandhi, but Gandhi is about India...It goes to the credit of the Indians to idealize and choose a 'Mahatma' as their political leader & ahimsa as a political weapon against the British.

I would rather say that given the legacy, it would have been surprising if anyone else would have been the Father of the Nation...
Non-violence was first preached in India and it was perhaps apt that Gandhiji also walked here... :-)
